Oriol Servia’s helmet
For as long as I can remember, Catalan Oriol Servia has worn a racing helmet that depicts countryman artist Salvador Dali, with his expressive mustache on either side. That’s been perfect for photography with the Catalan flag at the top. When Servia started racing Formula E last year, he chose to depict the great American inventor Benjamin Franklin, with his key and kite that helped those of his era understand the concepts of electricity on one side, keeping Dali’s face on the other. Fitting, don’t you think?
While driving at the 99th Indianapolis 500 this year for Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing in a Honda Indy car, Servia elected to keep his current helmet design. “Well, he is on the $100 bill, you know?” he told me with a laugh.
